Okay, so this trip was one of the coolest I have ever taken. It was a day trip only and we spent over 10 hrs traveling (driving, ferry, or waiting for ferry) for just over 2 hrs of recreation. But totally worth it!!! First we stopped at Deception pass for a little hiking, sightseeing and a picnic. Beautiful!!! Then we drove to Annacortes to catch the ferry to Friday Harbor for some whale watching. There's a resident pod of Orca's that lives there. It was Oct 1st and they changed the ferry schedule that very day and we had to wait 3 hrs for the ferry. Very boring and time consuming. But if we hadn't caught such a late ferry we wouldn't have seen the whales! They were out to sea fishing and when we finally got to Lime Kiln Point State Park it was nearly 5 pm. We waited and watched for an hour. I asked someone and she said she heard they were out to sea all day but they were headed back in, but who knew how close to shore they would get and when. Sigh. After an hour we gave up and started hiking back to our car. DJ and I turned around and decided to watch just a few more minutes and I couldn't believe it!! But we saw them! First we just saw water spouts , then fins and a little body now and then. Amazing! I can't believe I actually got to see Orca's in the wild. They weren't that close to shore, but still a cool experience!

Sooo jealous!!! I want to see some whales! I think that mom was laughing inside at my infatuation with the white baluga whales at sea world. They are so beautiful!
